On Saturday, January 28, 2017, the Az-Zahraa Islamic Centre will once again be holding its doors open for the sixth annual, youth-organized ‘A Journey Into Islam’ event, which has over 300 guests in attendance each year. The evening will begin with a demonstration of prayer, followed by a delicious dinner with short talks by guest speakers, including Azhar Nasser and Laya Behbahani, a Business & Policy Analyst – Police Studies Centre at Simon Fraser University’s School of Criminology.
Islamic art is a concept that encompasses vibrant and distinctive art forms, originating in seventh century Arabia. However, it is not limited to religious work, and includes artistic productions from various cultures.
Over the years, A Journey Into Islam has grown and evolved due to feedback we’ve received from our guests, exhibitors, and volunteers. We hope to continue producing a new and exciting event for those who attend year after year.
In 2014, we made the decision to introduce a theme to each event, which was reflected in the keynote address and exhibits. We began with with ‘Science in Islam,’ and last year we explored the theme of ‘Social Responsibility in Islam.’
